We’ve taken some time to start up our Student Ministries here at First United Methodist Church because we want to do it the right way. Scott began the process of visiting youth and their families in August and is continuing that process throughout the fall. He has also developed a book study on Student Ministries and has begun meeting with a number of adult volunteers. Now we are getting ready to start our first events!
First, on September 26 we’ll have a youth night. The Jr. High will have the run of the church from 5-6 p.m. Jr. and Sr. High will hang out for some food from 6 – 6:30 p.m. and the Sr. High will take over the church from 6:30-7:30 p.m. If you are a student in 6-12th grades, be sure to stop in and get a sneak peek at the new Student Ministries at First Church!
We’ll follow up this first event with a Youth Lock-In on October 16. Students should have dinner before; bring $5 and a snack to share; the Lock-in will be finished and students ready for pick up by 7 a.m. Sunday morning, or students can stay for church and go home with their families. We will need lots of parents help to make this Lock-in successful, so give Scott a call if you’re willing to provide some type of support.
Some of you may be ready for us to start a weekly youth group, but the leaders of Student Ministries want to spend some time getting to know the youth, their families and one another as we plan for this new year. In order to begin mapping out the year, we will gather students, their parents, and adult volunteers for a “Youth Ministry Summit” on Thursday, September 30 (6:30 – 8 p.m. to discuss Student Ministries and dream about our year. We hope that you’ll come hang out with us and help us kick off this new year in a big way!
