Lock-In!

Hey everyone, come join us on Saturday for a Lock-In at First United Methodist Church. We’ll start at 8 p.m. (11/6/2010) and end with church at 8:15 a.m. on Sunday morning (11/7/2010). If you have to come a late just call the church in advance so we know when to expect you and parents are welcome to pick kids up anytime after 7 a.m. if you aren’t staying for church or want to get ready at home.

Bring: $5.00, a snack to share, bedding (we will sleep), and whatever you will need to get ready for church (school clothes are fine, no need to dress up).

Please do not bring: expensive electronics, handheld games, or mp3 players (ipods).

Hope to see everyone there!!!

New School Year…new student ministries

We’ve taken some time to start up our Student Ministries here at First United Methodist Church because we want to do it the right way.  Scott began the process of visiting youth and their families in August and is continuing that process throughout the fall.  He has also developed a book study on Student Ministries and has begun meeting with a number of adult volunteers.  Now we are getting ready to start our first events!

First, on September 26 we’ll have a youth night.  The Jr. High will have the run of the church from 5-6 p.m.  Jr. and Sr. High will hang out for some food from 6 – 6:30 p.m. and the Sr. High will take over the church from 6:30-7:30 p.m.  If you are a student in 6-12th grades, be sure to stop in and get a sneak peek at the new Student Ministries at First Church!
We’ll follow up this first event with a Youth Lock-In on October 16.  Students should have dinner before; bring $5 and a snack to share; the Lock-in will be finished and students ready for pick up by 7 a.m. Sunday morning, or students can stay for church and go home with their families.  We will need lots of parents help to make this Lock-in successful, so give Scott a call if you’re willing to provide some type of support.
Some of you may be ready for us to start a weekly youth group, but the  leaders of Student Ministries want to spend some time getting to know the youth, their families and one another as we plan for this new year.  In order to begin mapping out the year, we will gather students, their parents, and adult volunteers for a “Youth Ministry Summit” on Thursday, September 30 (6:30 – 8 p.m. to discuss Student Ministries and dream about our year.  We hope that you’ll come hang out with us and help us kick off this new year in a big way!

He still heals…

We had a small, quiet prayer/healing service up in DaLoft last night. It was probably less exciting than the Operation Graduation dodge-ball fund-raiser, except God showed up and did some pretty amazing things. From what my eyes could see, healing happened. Time will tell if we truly experienced Jesus intervening in time and space to change a diagnosis, but it sure felt like the Spirit was moving freely last night. It was a unique experience for most of us, but a powerful one, nonetheless. I just thought that was worth sharing.
Next week, we return to our regularly scheduled programming, as we wrap up the “Freinds” video series for Senior High. Come on out!

There Is Still Time To Register for Dare2Share

d2swpEven though our early deadline for discounted tickets has passed, I still think more of our students should take advantage of the opportunity to attend Dare2Share this year.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me. It’s just such an incredible experience, I don’t want any of our students to miss it. It doesn’t matter if they’re totally sold-out for Jesus, or just browsing the spiritual buffet table – Dare2Share is an incredible opportunity for every student!

Sign up ASAP for the conference!

PS – I’ve even had some folks sign up their student first, and tell them they’re going later. ;)

Waiver and Release forms are available here!

Chrysalis

We have several students from our student ministries who will be embarking on a Chrysalis “Flight’ at the end of this month. This is, in essence, a 3 day short course on Christianity. In those days, however, they will learn some exceptional leadership skills, some great faith essentials, and get loved on amazingly.
If you get a chance, please pray for our team (of which a few from this church are a part), the success for the weekend (March 27-29), and the students taking this step

Mike Rayson in Concert

Dare2Share Deadline Extension

I got a message from my friends at D2S today saying that the discounted ticket price extends until Sunday at 10PM. That means people can still register BY SUNDAY for the discounted price. Costs go up after this, so it may be a good idea to register by Sunday, March 8. We have 6 students signed up so far. I really think we need 12 to go. Who’s in?
For more information, check out dare2share.org.
To register at this price, please send a $75 check, plus the completed waiver and release form found here by Sunday.
Let me know if you have any questions. It should be a remarkable trip again this year!

A New Venture

In an effort to increase communications with folks, I broke down and started this Blog. I know that not everyone is on Facebook, but if you want, students and parents can subscribe to this resource to get more information about events connected with PFUMC Student Minsitries.
Peace,
Pastor Grant
